WHO WE ARE
We care about space and its endless potential. We make offices, houses, and studios; we alter streets and change cities; we talk, we think, we draw, and we make models. We understand that architecture is the production and shaping of space with time and place and form and material.
Our work is a continuation of a century-long conversation about architecture and meaning, metaphor and shape.
We see potential in problems, needs, desires. We see ourselves as translators of experiential feeling into solidly built form. Our projects are at once deep and intimate collaborations and expansive and powerful experiments. We thrive on concept, and also on simplicity. We believe that architecture is a dance of decision and opportunity.
Our work is without disciplinary boundary or practical limitation. We are excited by the pencil, the hand, the story, the skill; the office, the home, the surface, the city block.
THE PRINCIPALS
Michael Garcia and Farid Tamjidi met at the University of California, Berkeley. Since graduating, we have each worked at multiple scales—from intimate residences to large-scale offices; from stand-alone houses to major high-rises. Together, we have developed an iterative and holistic process of research and design.
Michael GarciaAs partners, we complete projects far beyond our individual capabilities. Our work is inspired by both deep architectural experience and a universal curiosity. We rely on understanding architectural theory as thoroughly as we do state-of-the-art technologically-innovative practice. Our partnership is conceived and executed as a constantly-evolving collaboration.
Farid TamjidiPHILOSOPHY AND PROCESS
We understand that our clients have drives, needs, wishes; we know how to turn those ephemeral desires into built form and shaped space. We also know how to work together, how to develop the deepest possible understanding of what our clients want and how to create it. We know when to push, and when to listen; when to shift, and when to stand our ground. We understand a building as a connected network of material, light, and air.
RANGE OF SERVICES
We do it all. We are as familiar with building codes as we are with rendering processes; as adept at a deep understanding of siting and context as we are at designing a custom lamp; as good at a hand-sketch as we are at a mockup. We are there from start to finish, from initial spark to finished building.

STAFF & CONTRIBUTORS
We hire the best people, and then we let them grow. We value freedom, and true collaboration: the way a meeting of minds can create a flurry of ideas, a vast landscape of possibilities, then a winnowing down of choice and decision until, finally, there is a space, a color, a building.
